More Reasons To Learn Spanish

Why learn Spanish? There are so many reasons that it’s almost hard to list them all. That said, there are some major reasons that most people who pursue learning Spanish may find to be their main inspirations. Whether you’ve been studying for years or are just starting, reviewing these reasons is a good thing. It can remind you why you do what you do, inspire you to get started, and be good motivation for working hard in your studies, no matter what level you’re at.

1. Travel. Many people may learn Spanish because they are planning to travel to a country where it is the main language spoken. While yes, many people all over the world speak English, and in most cases you’ll do okay speaking English, remember that this isn’t the native tongue everywhere. You’ll have a more authentic experience (and probably get more respect from residents) if you learn Spanish, even a little, before you go.

2. Business. Speaking more than one language is a huge asset in the business world. From small local businesses in communities with significant numbers of Spanish speakers to large multi-national businesses with contacts all over the world, if you learn Spanish, you’ll be a huge step ahead of someone who only speaks English.

3. Community. Because so many people in the U.S. speak Spanish, deciding to learn Spanish is a great way of increasing your own relationship with your neighbors, coworkers and people in your community. If there’s someone in your life who speaks Spanish, it can be really meaningful to them to learn the language (and fun to talk to them in it!)

4. Personal development. Learning something new, especially a language, is a great way to exercise you brain and keep your mind on its toes. Whether Spanish is your second language, or your fifth, it’s good for us all to pick up something new. Language and thought have strong connections, so challenging yourself to think in a different language can really enhance the way you experience life.

5. Scholastic success. Most high school and college students are required to learn another language for graduation. Graduate and doctoral students in certain disciplines may need to learn several. If you learn Spanish, or use a study program to help brush up on classes you haven’t taken for awhile, you can get ahead not only now, but prepare for whatever you’re heading on to next.

These are five of the most popular reasons that people learn Spanish. What are yours?
